A Nigerian doctor based in Canada, Arinze Onwumelu, has advised singer Portable to undergo an urgent medical brain examination following his celebrity boxing match with skit maker Carter Efe.

The bout, held over the weekend in Lagos, saw Portable—popularly known as the “Zazuu” crooner—on the losing side, drawing widespread reactions across social media and entertainment circles.

In a video and social media post shared on Monday, Onwumelu, also known as Dr. Zo, recommended that the singer undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan to assess possible internal head injuries sustained during the fight.

He warned that repeated punches landed on sensitive areas of Portable’s head could lead to serious complications, including a possible subdural haematoma, a life-threatening brain condition.

“This is an exhibition match meant for entertainment, not a real fight to harm anyone. The contenders are not expected to fight to that extent,” he said.

“I watched the video; the kind of punches delivered means Portable may never recover from them. Anyone close to him should take him for an MRI and brain test immediately.”

The doctor further questioned the level of preparation and regulation of the bout, suggesting that participants may not have been properly briefed.

He also called on organisers of celebrity boxing events to make protective headgear mandatory in order to reduce the risk of serious head injuries.

Before the fight, Portable had expressed confidence in his ability to defeat Carter Efe, citing previous victories over rapper Speed Darlington and actor Charles Okocha in earlier celebrity boxing encounters.
