The decrease in educational standards seen in Nigeria is not unique to the nation, according to Mrs. Bukola Olatunji, the global president of the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Bida, former students organization.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday to announce the association’s annual general meeting/reunion, she claimed that the current crisis in the education sector had taken on a worldwide scope.
Olatunji, on the other hand, saw the pattern as alarming and emphasized the need for all hands to be on deck to confront the problem.
“It is not simply Unity Schools, something has happened to us,” she claimed. I was traveling with a group of individuals when they discussed the problem of students who skipped classes but still received degrees.
“Education quality is declining worldwide, and it is our responsibility as people to change things in our small circles.”
Olatunji cited insecurity and the rise of elitist private schools as the main causes of some parents’ reluctance to send their children to Federal Government Colleges countrywide as the reason for the decline in popularity of Unity Schools in Nigeria.
She announced that the keynote lecture would be given by Aisha Ahmad, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, during the association’s international reunion, which would take place in the capital.
Dame Pauline Tallen, the Minister for Women Affairs, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, the First Lady of the Niger State, Dr. Kole Shettima, the Africa Director of the MacArthur Foundation, and Lawrence A. Wilbert, the President General of the Unity Schools Old Students Association, are among the friends and partners of the Association who will deliver well-wish messages, according to her.
Other planned reunion activities include the presenting of honorary awards to outstanding sisters and organizations, the opening of new chapters, the swearing-in of the new Global Executives, and other enjoyable events.
Olatunji claimed that more than 4,000 graduates from the institution have gone on to achieve success in nearly every sphere of human endeavor.
