On Thursday, Sanusi Mohammed, a businessman, was accused of stealing and criminal conspiracy. A Grade I Area Court in Kubwa referred the matter to the police for further investigation.

In accordance with Section 89 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), judge Ibrahim Rufai issued the directive.

Rufai did postpone the matter to August 17 in order to await the results of the police inquiry.

Barrister George Presley, the complainant, filed a straight criminal complaint, which was forwarded to the Kubwa Police Station.

Presley earlier testified in court that on July 7, he sent his daughter with two phones—an Infinix Hot 8 and a Techno Spark 7—to charge at the defendant’s business phone charging facility.

He said that in addition to the things mentioned above, he also supplied two rechargeable lambs, which his daughter delivered to the defendant’s shopkeeper along with a tag number for proper identification and collection of the items.

“Hours later, my daughter went to the store to pick up the four things with the tag number she had been given, but she was informed that the telephones had already been collected.

“I rushed to the defendant’s shop and was told the same, so I reported the matter at the Byazhin Police Station, and the Nigerian Police from Kubwa Station took over the matter,” Presley stated.

The defendant, who had first been to Kano, appeared, the man said, and he bought a subpar replica of one of the stolen cellphones, begging with him to take it.

The complainant nevertheless accepted it but afterwards realized that the defendant had allegedly connived to deceive him into selling his phones so that they could be replaced with ones worth less.

However, he requested that the defendant be given a criminal summons for the aforementioned offenses.

The defendant, however, refuted the accusations made against him, claiming that he went to Kano for Sallah and came back to learn what had occurred from his storekeeper.
