The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Dantawaye Miller, psc, has formally assumed duty as the 34th Commissioner of Police of the FCT Police Command. He takes over from CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, who has been redeployed to another strategic assignment by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 17, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the new Commissioner brings with him over two decades of meritorious service in various strategic policing and leadership roles across the country.

Born on 15th October 1971 in Afogo, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, CP Miller hails from a family with deep policing roots, being the son of the late DCP Gajere Dantawaye.

His educational background reflects a strong foundation in both academic and professional development. He attended St. Williams Primary School in Ilorin before completing his primary education at Nuhu Primary School, Kankiya, Katsina State. He later proceeded to Government College, Katsina, and Federal Government College, Enugu, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate in 1989.

He holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Kaduna State Polytechnic, a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s Degree in International Studies from the University of Ilorin.

CP Dantawaye Miller began his policing career in May 2000 when he was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) under Course 20. He completed his training in 2001 and was subsequently posted to the Bayelsa State Police Command in January 2002.

Since then, he has served in several sensitive and strategic capacities, including Divisional Crime Officer, ‘A’ Division, Yenagoa; Acting Aide-de-Camp to the then Governor of Bayelsa State; Escort Commander to the then Vice President; and Chief Security Officer at the Ministry of Petroleum.

He also served as Commanding Officer, MOPOL 24 – Presidential Villa; Escort Commander to the then President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), FCT Command; Area Commander, Karewa, Adamawa State; Assistant Commissioner (CID), Oyo State; and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Yobe and Edo States.

Before his new posting, he was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Information Technology (IT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and most recently, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command.

CP Miller has attended several professional and leadership courses both locally and internationally, including Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism Course in Gwoza, Borno State; Leadership Training at Shere Hills, Jos; VVIP Protection Course in Ginegal, Israel; and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos.

A member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Rotary International, CP Miller is reputed for his professionalism, discipline, and community-oriented approach to policing.

As he assumes leadership of the FCT Police Command, CP Miller has pledged to consolidate ongoing security efforts, strengthen intelligence-led operations, and deepen collaboration with community stakeholders to ensure the safety of residents within the territory.

According to the statement, the Command urged residents to continue to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in their collective effort to sustain peace and public safety across the FCT.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, assured that the FCT Police Command remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability under the new leadership.

“The Commissioner of Police calls on residents to continue to support the police in its collective effort to maintain peace and security across the FCT,” the statement concluded.
