Chairman of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate alleged corruption involving former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed.

Dangote Group disclosed this on Friday, confirming that the petition followed the withdrawal of an earlier complaint submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The company had accused Ahmed of corrupt enrichment, alleging that he spent about $5 million on his children’s secondary education in Switzerland. Although Dangote later withdrew the ICPC petition, the anti-graft agency insisted it would continue its probe.

In a fresh statement, Dangote explained that the decision to approach the EFCC was strategic and aimed at accelerating the prosecution process. The petition to the EFCC was signed by Dangote’s lead counsel, Dr. O.J. Onoja.

The petition urged the EFCC to investigate allegations of abuse of office and illicit enrichment against Ahmed and to prosecute him in line with the law if found culpable.
