The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Hashimu Dungurawa, has firmly rejected moves by some ward executives to remove him from office, insisting he remains the party’s legitimate leader in the state.
Dungurawa spoke about 24 hours after executives of Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area reportedly signed a resolution purporting to expel him from the party.
Dismissing the action as illegal and inconsequential, Dungurawa said the ward executives lack the constitutional authority to remove him, noting that his position at the national level supersedes their claims.
According to him, as a member of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), no ward structure can lawfully override his mandate or status within the NNPP.
He expressed surprise at the development, stating that he had not been formally informed of any offence or misconduct that could warrant such action.
Dungurawa also issued a stern warning to individuals presenting themselves as party leaders in the state, describing their actions as impersonation.
He said the party would not hesitate to invoke legal measures against those allegedly misleading the public and undermining the party’s leadership structure in Kano State.
