Elsie Okpocha, ex-wife of popular Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, has issued a strong legal warning, vowing to take decisive action against individuals and blogs spreading false claims about her failed marriage.

The estranged couple, who tied the knot in November 2010, ended their marriage in December 2022 after what was described as mutual deliberations. However, fresh controversy erupted recently after a blog alleged that a paternity fraud involving their first child led to the breakdown of the union.

The claim, which reportedly stemmed from an alleged interview, quickly gained traction across social media, sparking widespread speculation and public debate.

Reacting swiftly, Elsie, through her legal representatives, Primeview Legal, dismissed the allegations as false, malicious, and unfounded. In a strongly worded statement shared on her Instagram page, she warned that any individual or platform found spreading such claims would face legal consequences.

She specifically threatened to institute defamation and privacy violation lawsuits, making it clear that she would not tolerate further damage to her reputation.

Beyond the legal implications, Elsie also raised concerns about the emotional toll of the rumours on her family—particularly her first child.

She noted that such misleading narratives could expose the child to bullying both online and offline, potentially leading to serious psychological harm.

“Some innocent members of the public may take such publications as the true state of things and begin to bully their son… with consequential psychological trauma,” the statement read.

The development has reignited conversations around responsible reporting, celebrity privacy, and the dangers of unverified social media claims, as Elsie moves to protect both her name and her family.
