The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed viral social media reports alleging an assassination attempt on Lt. Ahmed Yerima, describing the claims as false and capable of causing unnecessary public panic.

In a statement on Sunday night, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command has no record or report of any such incident within the FCT.

The viral report claimed that Yerima was trailed by unidentified men dressed in black and riding in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates, allegedly following him from the NIPCO Filling Station off Kubwa Expressway to Gado Nasco Way. However, the police dismissed the story as unverified and misleading.

Adeh urged residents to disregard the publication, stressing that spreading false information poses a threat to public peace and safety. She said, “For the safety of all residents, the Command advises the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Division.”

The police also provided emergency contact lines 08032003913 and 08068587311 for swift response to distress situations.

Lt. Yerima was recently involved in a confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over a disputed land site in Gaduwa District. The clash, which was captured on video, sparked widespread public debate and online discussions, but the police clarified that no threat to Yerima’s life had been reported.

The FCT Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order across the nation’s capital.
