The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has brought women from Nigeria’s South-South and South-East regions together under a new partnership aimed at strengthening women’s participation in politics and governance.

The partnership, known as the South-South/South-East Women Ensemble, was unveiled on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at Aldgate Hotel, Abacha Road, GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The initiative operates under the IPAC Directorate of Women Affairs and carries the theme, Building Formidable Structures for Inclusive Governance.

Speaking at the unveiling, the South-South Zonal Coordinator of the IPAC Directorate of Women Affairs, Rev. Hon. Amb. Tammy Clarizza Abusi, said the platform would unite women across political parties and create opportunities for them to contribute to governance beyond election periods.

She said women often mobilise support, campaign and make sacrifices for political parties but receive limited opportunities to participate in decision-making after elections.

Abusi stressed that electoral defeat should not end a woman’s opportunity to serve in public office, adding that qualified women should receive fair consideration for appointments, government committees, boards and advisory positions.

She explained that the partnership would focus on leadership training, mentorship, networking, political engagement and advocacy for greater representation of women.

According to her, the platform would also encourage women from different political parties to work together despite their political differences.

Abusi called on governors and other public officials in both regions to support the initiative through partnerships, leadership programmes and opportunities for qualified women to contribute to public administration.

She also urged political parties to identify and mentor capable women, while calling on development partners, corporate organisations and philanthropists to support training, research and advocacy programmes.

The coordinator said the success of the initiative would depend on measurable results, including the number of women trained, opportunities created and partnerships established. She further encouraged women not to allow electoral setbacks or political rejection to discourage them from pursuing leadership roles.

The unveiling marks an effort by the IPAC Directorate of Women Affairs to strengthen regional cooperation and build a network that promotes women’s political participation and inclusion in governance.

The initiative’s central message is that women’s contributions should count beyond election campaigns and that political participation should translate into meaningful opportunities to serve.

Two regions. One voice. One purpose.

Presented by Rev. Hon. Amb. Tammy Clarizza Abusi, South-South Zonal Coordinator, IPAC Directorate of Women Affairs.
