More than 1,000 Nigerians, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Agency, have been duped by schemes offering international employment possibilities in the United Kingdom.

This came to light when the organization suggested that Nigerians get accurate information before making any migration-related decisions.

This was revealed to reporters by Laurent De Boeck, Chief of Mission of IOM, on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Abuja.

Some of them lost more than $10,000, but they were provided fictitious work documents that let them obtain visas. When they arrive and show the letters, the organizations inform them that they are not the source of the letters.

It affects more than a thousand people, according to Boeck. Boeck continued, saying that IOM is collaborating with partners to return hundreds of individuals from Tunisia—which just imposed a travel ban—including Nigerians.
