By Eppe Franklyne| The New York Knicks captured their first NBA Championship in 53 years after producing a dramatic 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Saturday.

Led by an outstanding performance from Jalen Brunson, who scored a franchise-record 45 points, the Knicks completed a 4-1 series win and secured the title on San Antonio’s home court. The victory ended one of the longest championship droughts in NBA history and crowned a remarkable postseason campaign for New York.

The Knicks once again demonstrated their resilience after falling behind by 16 points in the second quarter. Despite trailing for much of the contest, they refused to back down and mounted another stunning comeback. New York was still 10 points behind early in the fourth quarter before Brunson took control and inspired a decisive late surge.

Brunson’s 45-point performance set a new franchise record for points scored in an NBA Finals game, surpassing the previous mark of 38 established by Knicks legend Willis Reed during the 1970 Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.

For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama delivered 19 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks, while rookie Dylan Harper added 25 points from the bench. However, the young San Antonio side could not withstand the relentless pressure applied by the champions in the closing stages.

The New York Knicks NBA Championship victory capped an unforgettable playoff run that reignited excitement across the city. Thousands of supporters gathered at watch parties throughout New York as the team moved within touching distance of glory.

Scenes of celebration erupted immediately after the final buzzer. The Empire State Building was illuminated in the Knicks’ iconic orange and blue colours, while jubilant fans flooded the streets around Madison Square Garden to celebrate the historic New York Knicks NBA Championship triumph.
