By Eppe Franklyne| Canadian tennis sensation Victoria Mboko will miss Wimbledon 2026 after suffering a knee injury during this week’s tournament at Queen’s Club, bringing an early end to her grass-court season.
The 19-year-old, currently ranked World No. 9, sustained the injury during her match against Karolina Pliskova at the HSBC Championships. Mboko slipped behind the baseline while attempting to return a shot in the second set and immediately clutched her left knee in visible discomfort.
Medical staff attended to the teenager on court, and she later retired from the match. Following further assessment, she also withdrew from the doubles competition, where she had attracted significant attention as the partner of tennis legend Serena Williams.
Confirming the setback in a post on Instagram, Mboko revealed the extent of the injury and expressed her disappointment at missing one of the sport’s biggest events.
“Unfortunately, my fall on Wednesday caused an injury to the MCL on my left knee, which sadly means I will miss the remainder of the grass season. This unfortunately means Wimbledon too, a tournament I had been so looking forward to playing this year,” she wrote.
The injury is a major blow for the young Canadian, whose rapid rise has made her one of the most exciting players on the women’s tour. Missing Wimbledon 2026 denies her the opportunity to continue her impressive progress on one of tennis’ biggest stages.
Mboko and Serena Williams had enjoyed a winning start to their doubles campaign on Tuesday, securing victory in Williams’ first professional match since the 2022 US Open. Their partnership had generated widespread interest throughout the tournament.
During the match against Pliskova, Mboko reportedly told a physiotherapist that there was “no stability” in her knee after the fall, raising immediate concerns about the seriousness of the injury.
The focus now shifts to recovery as the teenager begins rehabilitation with hopes of returning to action later in the season.
