The Labour Party has firmly disowned all social media platforms currently operating in its name, declaring that it does not run any active online account at the moment.

The party issued the clarification while raising alarm over a fraudulent X (formerly Twitter) account identified as “LABOUR PARTY (LP)NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_, allegedly linked to former national chairman Julius Abure and his associates.

In a strongly worded statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, the party accused the operators of deliberately misleading the public by posing as its official communication channel.

The statement revealed that the account had earlier been disowned by the party in February but was rebranded and relaunched under a different identity in a calculated attempt to continue spreading misinformation.

“For the avoidance of doubt,” the statement read, “the Labour Party does not currently operate any social media account for public communication.”

The party clarified that its only known accounts—Facebook: Labour Party-Nig and X: LabourPartyNG—remain inactive, warning that any information circulating from those platforms should be treated with caution.

Taking the matter further, the party confirmed it has formally petitioned the Nigeria Police Force to recover control of its official X account, which it claims is currently in the hands of former party leadership.

According to the statement, individuals including Julius Abure and Umar Farouk are already cooperating with the Deputy Inspector General of Police at the Force Intelligence Department, where investigations are ongoing into the alleged unauthorized use of the party’s digital platforms.

The Labour Party stressed that all official communication is presently released only through verified press statements from the office of its Interim National Chairman.

It also dismissed as false a viral post suggesting that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were set to return to the party, describing the claim as unauthorized and misleading.

The party urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and ignore all content emanating from the disputed accounts, assuring that the public will be duly informed once investigations are concluded and official platforms are restored.
