|By Adejumo Adekunle – Former presidential media aide Laolu Akande has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to work directly with President Bola Tinubu to secure the release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Akande said Makinde must meet Tinubu over Oyo schoolchildren abduction to demonstrate a united response to the security crisis.
Although he acknowledged the efforts already made by the Oyo State Government, Akande stressed that the state’s security resources alone may not be enough to tackle the challenge.
He argued that Makinde must meet Tinubu over Oyo schoolchildren abduction because Nigeria’s security structure places key policing and military powers under the Federal Government.
According to him, governors receive security votes and often deploy them to address local threats. However, he said the current situation requires visible cooperation between both levels of government.
Akande questioned why the governor and the president had not held direct talks despite their close proximity in recent days. He added that a meeting would reassure residents that authorities are working together to rescue the victims.
Furthermore, he maintained that Makinde must meet Tinubu over Oyo schoolchildren abduction to present what he described as a common and unified front against insecurity.
