Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has declared that President Bola Tinubu faces no formidable challenger from the North ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Momodu, speaking on News Central TV’s Breakfast Central on Thursday, warned that the PDP’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South could hand Tinubu an easy path to re-election.

According to the former presidential candidate, Tinubu has already tightened his political grip across the South.

“Tinubu has locked down the South by taking out Delta, Akwa Ibom, and disorganizing Rivers State. Fubara is neither here nor there, even if he comes back tomorrow, he would have to tow the line,” Momodu said.

He further argued that ongoing political maneuvers are ensuring the President’s dominance.

“The other states are being worked at so that they can grab them. If they have a choice, Tinubu will not have any candidates contesting against him. And once you restrict the presidential election to the South, there is no formidable actor from the North. It is as good as giving it to Asiwaju on a platter,” he added.

Momodu also accused state governors and politicians seeking re-election of deliberately avoiding confrontation with Tinubu.

“The governors know what they are doing. Those looking for a second term know what they are doing not to be seen to be opposed to Asiwaju because this is state capture,” he said.

He lamented what he described as a culture of silence under Tinubu’s administration, saying:
“When did Nigeria degenerate to the level where people are afraid to speak truth to power? Just because our friend is the President today, it means all of us must become timid and nobody wants to talk.”
