The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Olufemi Soneye, has formally resigned from his position.
Soneye made the announcement in a statement released to DAILY POST on Saturday, saying he had decided to step aside from his role to dedicate more time to his family and attend to personal matters that now demand his closer attention.
“I wish to inform you that I have stepped aside from my role as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd,” he said. “This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family and attend to personal responsibilities.”
Appointed in August 2021, Soneye served as the public face and voice of NNPCL during a critical phase of the company’s transformation under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and the national energy reform agenda.
In his farewell message, Soneye thanked his colleagues and media professionals for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure. He acknowledged their collective efforts in building a vibrant communication presence for the national oil company.
“It has been a profound honour to serve both the company and our country and to contribute in my own way to the ongoing transformation of NNPC Ltd. I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me, the opportunities granted, and the incredible professionals both within and outside the organisation with whom I have worked,” Soneye said.
He also pledged to remain a staunch supporter and ambassador of the company wherever he goes, urging his former colleagues to sustain balanced and constructive reportage that promotes NNPCL’s strategic role in Nigeria’s energy future.
While NNPCL has yet to officially announce a replacement, Soneye’s departure marks a significant change in the communications architecture of the company at a time when public engagement and transparency remain key to its operations.
