A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Magaji Mato, has firmly dismissed claims of factionalisation within the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), declaring that the party remains legally and factually united.

Mato made the assertion on Wednesday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, stressing that there has never been any division in the party’s structure or leadership.

His remarks come two days after Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, officially rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his resignation from the NNPP last Friday—a development that reignited public debate over alleged internal splits within the party.

Addressing the issue, Mato argued that factionalisation cannot exist by mere declaration, insisting that it must be established both in fact and in law.

According to him, official records clearly show that the NNPP operates as a single, unified political party. He noted that a review of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) records leaves no ambiguity about the party’s leadership structure.

Mato further emphasised that no court of law in Nigeria has recognised or pronounced the existence of multiple factions within the NNPP, describing contrary claims as baseless.

“What we are facing now is propaganda,” he said, adding that individuals parading themselves as party leaders lack both legal backing and institutional recognition.

He accused sections of the public and the media of amplifying unverified claims, thereby creating a false narrative of division where none exists.

Mato maintained that, both in law and on record, the NNPP remains one indivisible political entity and said the party is prepared to prove this position anywhere it is challenged.
