Edo State Commissioner for Education, Paddy Iyamu, has declared a return to calm in Ekpoma following the violence that erupted during an anti-kidnapping protest by students.
Speaking on Wednesday during Sunrise Daily on Channels Television, Iyamu confirmed that security agencies have restored order and that academic activities will resume immediately.
He disclosed that several students of Ambrose Ali University were arrested during the protest but assured that their release is ongoing. According to him, the state government worked through the night with security operatives to secure the students’ freedom.
“We have issued a communiqué directing students to return to school on Monday. Schools in Edo Central will resume because normalcy has been restored,” Iyamu said.
He added that the Edo State Governor remains within the area to ensure sustained peace, noting that security agencies have intensified efforts to prevent a recurrence of violence.
Iyamu further revealed that 38 students are affected in total, with the final batch scheduled for release, marking a major step toward full restoration of academic and social stability in Ekpoma, Edo State.
