Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that the projects completed by his government will garner votes for all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the state in the 2023 general elections.

Wike made the remarks yesterday at the inauguration of the Ahoada-Omoku Dual Carriageway, which took place at the Ahoada State School in the state’s Ahoada East local government area.

While individuals worry about vote buying and using money to sway voters, the governor says his administration is devoted to doing more for Rivers residents and making them happier.

“Our own campaign is to do labor,” he explained. When you talk about vote buying, this is what you mean. We are using work to get people’s support. As a result, people need not worry about persons carrying money.

“See our own here, we are using the Ahoada-Omoku road dualization, we are using Ahoada-Ekpena Road, we are using the University campus, we are using Ochigba/Ogbologbolo/Ozochi Road. What will they (the opposition) tell you again?”

Wike also stated that his administration will utilize the legal system to imprison politicians who break Executive Orders 21 and 22.

The governor added that some politicians are already bragging that with the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Police on their side, Executive Orders are meaningless and that they will be disobeyed.

He dared such politicians to defy Executive Orders if they could and see if they would not be imprisoned.

“I didn’t suggest nobody should use primary and secondary schools for campaigns,” Wike clarified. All I’ve mentioned is that you deposit money if you want to use primary and secondary schools for your campaigns.

“So that when you’ve used the place and destroy anything in the school, the government would use the money to restore those items you spoilt and clean up the school. And then there are those who claim that they would disobey and that no one would punish them. If you disobey, you know where you’ll end up.”

The governor noted that the Executive Orders aim to control political activity in order to reduce disturbance and promote public tranquility.

“Some individuals locate their campaign headquarters where people live,” he explained. Someone is returning to his house, but he is unable to enter. Because they are holding political gatherings.

“We believe this should be regulated. It must be located in a non-residential area. They claim they will not, but I believe you will. You’ll go to jail if you do anything without permission.”

Wike stated the Ahoada-Omoku dualized road was built to add to the numerous projects that have transformed Ahoada into a modern metropolis.

The governor cautioned landowners who had been lawfully compensated prior to the start of the road project not to return to build structures on the space left for future expansion work.

He declared that the land now belonged to the State government and commanded the Commissioner of Works to dismantle any structures that had already been built on it.

Wike formally recognized HRH, Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo as the Eze Ekpeye Logbo 111 at the event and stated that his staff of office and certificate of recognition will be presented to him in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

The governor also presented a brand new Prado SUV to the Bishop of the Diocese of Ahoada Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Clement Ekpeye, and stated that other Anglican Bishops had received theirs.

He added that prior to his election in 2015, Ekpeye territory had only one first-class traditional monarch. However, he has reversed this, as there are now at least six first-class traditional rulers in Ekpeye country.
