Theresa Abebe, mother of former Nigerian first lady the late Stella Obasanjo, has died at the age of 89.
The Abebe family announced her death on Tuesday.
Mrs Abebe was the wife of Christopher Abebe, the first Nigerian Chairman/Managing Director of United African Company (UAC) and Chairman Nigerian Breweries Limited.
Christopher Abebe died in March 2018 at the age of 99.
He was also pro-chancellor and chairman of council of three Nigerian universities: University of Benin, University of Nsukka and University of Calabar.
Theresa’s death was announced in a statement signed by her son John Abebe who is facing trial for alleged $4m fraud.
Sources had earlier reported that John Abebe’s counsel on Monday made an oral application for the release of his passport to enable him travel to the United Kingdom.
His lawyer told the court that his client lost his mother over the weekend in the UK.
Theresa is survived by John Abebe, Rita Abebe, including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
