On Friday, a Kwara State High Court in Ilorin sentenced Bashiru Azeez, a student at the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, who is 31 years old, to six months in prison for fraud involving $9,891.

The punishment was delivered by Justice Adebayo Yusuf while making a decision regarding a fraud case brought by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Bashiru is a student at the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin studying marketing. He hails from Oyan in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State.

The anti-graft organization filed a single count of fraud against a customer totaling $9,891 against the accused. He confessed to the crime. Sesan Ola, the EFCC’s attorney, reviewed the case’s facts after the defendant entered a plea, using a witness who is an employee of the agency.
The witness presented the defendant’s extrajudicial remarks, an HP laptop, one RX 330 Lexus automobile, and one phone as proof of the crime against them. The defense attorney then requested the court to find the defendant guilty of all charges.

In his ruling, Justice Yusuf sentenced the defendant to six months in prison with the option of a N200,000 fine.

The convict’s automobile, one iPhone XR, and HP laptop were also ordered forfeited to the federal government by the judge.
