Tunji Wusu –
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) received a brand-new Toyoto Coaster bus with 30 seats from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) on Monday to help with transportation.
While introducing the bus, TETFund Executive Secretary Arch. Sonny Echono stated that the organization is also developing interventions to address problems with student housing and other issues.
Students are at the center of education issues, according to Echono, who stated that the meeting was a continuation of their engagement with stakeholders.
Echono emphasized the importance of providing students with skills training and rights advocacy, but she also made clear that TETFund wanted the students to be its watchdogs in various institutions, denouncing bad contracts to maintain systemic openness.
“A young child who was heading to the next village informed us that a dead body was hanging from an electric pole. The rain has kept us inside since the morning, keeping us in our beds, said John.
“Due to the rain, we stayed indoors. We came out to our frontage, but we failed to notice the young man’s lifeless body hanging there. The fact that the body was holding an electrical cord indicates that he was cutting it.
“For a while, we were without power, but the BEDC restored it about three in the morning; only God knows what happened. Before the corpse was hauled down, we warned the local vigilance volunteers, who then called the police.
The student body thanked the board for complying with their request and providing them with a 30-seat coaster bus.
“We are here to express our gratitude and to encourage the entire management to continue doing more for students from Nigeria.”
