Tunji Wusu –

According to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the state will advance approximately N150 billion to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for a road project in the oil-rich state.

This was said by Mr. Fubara during the Port Harcourt Ring Road project’s agreement signing event on Wednesday between the Rivers State Government and the construction firm.

The governor shared a video of the incident, which was broadcast live by Channels TV, on his Twitter page.

The state would spend N195.3 billion on the contract for the 50.15 km road project.

“As a government, we will fulfill our responsibilities. Following this, we’ll pay you… At the ceremony, Mr. Fubara informed the Julius Berger team, “The overall value of the contract is N195.3 billion, and we are paying you 77% of it, which is almost N150 billion extra.

“As per our agreement, we will start processing your balance as soon as we have verified delivery of 75% of the initial fund provided. And we’re dedicated to doing that. I can assure you,” Mr. Fubara said to cheers from the ceremony’s few dignitaries, including his cabinet colleagues.

The state’s governor commended Julius Berger for the high-quality work it had previously completed in the state and urged them to uphold the standard.

“We want to ensure that this job is finished as soon as we begin. We need a respectable organization that has a proven track record of delivery since we have to accomplish it. We’re not doing this because we like you; rather, we want you to continue giving the performance you’ve been logging in this situation.

Community leaders and young people have been cautioned by Governor Fubara not to obstruct the project, which he claims will open up the state and speed up development.

Any traditional leader who tries to obstruct the initiative with his youths will be instantly suspended, and any child who is detected trying to subvert our government will face legal action.

“I’m not kidding. We value this project, the governor declared.

According to a Julius Berger representative, the business has never failed the state on a project and is dedicated to completing the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.

The road project in Rivers State would cross roughly six local government areas.

45 km (50.15 miles) would be dual-carriageway. Six flyovers and one river-crossing bridge are planned as part of the project. According to George Kelly-Alabo, the state’s commissioner for works, the flyover will be 4.8 kilometers long overall.

It will be finished in 36 months by Julius Berger.

It’s a route that prior administrations had tried to take but failed to do. The procedure was started by the previous administration, and it has now officially begun. The project will start right now, according to Mr. Kelly-Alabo.

He continued, “Julius Berger must have six teams working simultaneously in six different sites of the project.
