Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has condemned the killing of nine women during a protest in Yola, Adamawa State, allegedly by military operatives.
Frank, in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, described the deaths as senseless and avoidable, insisting the victims—mothers and breadwinners—were met with lethal force for simply demanding safety in their communities.
He lamented that the women were only seeking protection for their children when they were killed.
“Their only offence was demanding safety,” he said, insisting that the persistent use of violence against civilians must end.
Frank called on the federal and state governments to compensate the bereaved families, including providing scholarships for the victims’ children and long-term welfare support to prevent the tragedy from plunging households into hardship.
“These women must not die in vain,” he stressed.
He further urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate alleged military abuses in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. Frank noted that the United States has shown willingness to stand with oppressed African citizens and appealed for similar moral intervention.
“The killing of the Yola Nine is a tragedy Nigeria must not brush aside,” he said. “Justice must be non-negotiable. Accountability must be immediate. And this barbarism must never happen again.”
