Political strategist and founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Prof. Udenta Udenta, has slammed governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently defected to other political platforms, describing their actions as cowardly and gutless.
Udenta, who spoke on Arise Television on Tuesday, dismissed claims that the PDP was collapsing under internal pressures. He maintained that the opposition party remained strong, vibrant, and rooted in the people, not in the ambitions of a few political elites.
According to him, the recent wave of defections reflected the personal interests of politicians rather than the true state of the PDP. “If you decide to use the PDP as a platform, the party is vibrant with life,” he said. “Even though there’s a shift among the upper crust of the political elite — the governors — who, for some reason, decide to say, ‘okay, we call it a day, we’re going to join APC where we think their gluttony will power our ambition.’”
The professor also clarified his earlier remarks about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential political comeback, explaining that his analysis was based purely on political variables, not insider information. “When I spoke about the prospect of the former president, I didn’t speak as a spokesperson,” he stated. “He has not declared a political context in the election. Even his membership of the party is for him to clarify.”
Udenta insisted that despite the defections, the PDP’s core identity and influence remain intact, emphasizing that the party draws its strength from the people and its democratic ideals.
