The United States has intensified its counterterrorism operations in Nigeria, shifting focus to the Sambisa Forest in Borno State following recent airstrikes against ISIS-linked terrorists in Sokoto State.
Fresh intelligence and surveillance missions are now underway across the vast Sambisa axis, a long-time stronghold of insurgent groups in the North-East. The development was disclosed by top security analyst Brant Philip, who cited real-time flight tracking data to support the claim.
According to the data shared on his X account, a Gulfstream V aircraft was tracked flying repeatedly over Borno State, indicating active intelligence-gathering operations in the area.
Philip stated that the latest surveillance is aimed at the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction notorious for deadly attacks across the North-East and the Lake Chad Basin.
Sambisa Forest has remained a strategic operational base for insurgent groups, making it a critical target in ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist networks operating within the region.
