The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has activated its Digital Certificate Services System, known as WAEC DigiCert, across its five member countries, marking a significant shift toward seamless digital access to examination records.

The announcement was conveyed in an official statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, on behalf of the Registrar. According to the Council, the rollout simultaneously covers The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

Ojijeogu explained that WAEC DigiCert operates as both a mobile and web-based application, engineered to grant candidates and stakeholders instant access to digital versions of their original certificates. The platform enables users to request, confirm and securely share certified digital copies of their results with educational institutions and organisations worldwide.

He further disclosed that the system allows candidates to recover lost WAEC examination numbers directly through the application, eliminating long-standing procedural delays associated with manual verification. The Council assured users that the digital certificates issued through the platform carry guaranteed authenticity and robust security safeguards.

By introducing the system, WAEC aims to drastically reduce administrative bottlenecks traditionally linked to physical certificate issuance and collection. The Council emphasised that the digital process not only strengthens security but also cuts costs for users navigating documentation requirements for admissions, employment or international verification.

Despite the digital transformation, WAEC clarified that the innovation will not disrupt the printing and issuance of physical certificates. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining both digital and conventional channels to accommodate diverse user needs across the region.

Stakeholders and candidates have been encouraged to download the WAEC DigiCert mobile application or visit the official website and social media platforms of the Council for further guidance on accessing the service.

With the full implementation of WAEC DigiCert, the examination body has signalled a decisive move toward digital governance in credential management, positioning itself to meet growing global demands for secure, verifiable and instantly accessible academic records.
