To commemorate Christmas and Boxing Day, the Federal Government has designated December 26 and 27, 2022, as public holidays.

Additionally, it designated January 2, 2023, as New Year’s Day.

The announcement was made by the interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola, in a statement released on Friday by Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the permanent secretary of the ministry.

Aregbesola asked Nigerians and Christians to make the most of this holiday time by praying for the complete eradication of the nation’s crippling insecurity.

The minister exhorted believers to imitate Christ’s teachings of faith, hope, and love.

“We must imitate Jesus Christ’s life in His deeds and teachings on humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness, which His birth implies,” he stated. The ideal method to honor Christ’s birth and present him will be in this way.

“Two essential prerequisites for economic growth and prosperity are peace and security. We implore Nigerians and Christians to make the most of this Christmas season by praying for the complete eradication of the insecurity that afflicts our beloved country.
