Popular Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has berated the federal government for failing to address the growing economic hardship in the country, accusing leaders of allowing citizens to “adjust to suffering as a norm.”
In a recent interview with Madame Joyce in the United Kingdom, Zlatan reacted to British rapper Dave’s satirical portrayal of Nigeria’s nightlife — where flashy clubbers coexist with impoverished beggars outside the venues.
“We are used to it — suffering and smiling. That’s how it has always been, and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” Zlatan lamented.
The “Zanku” crooner expressed frustration that the hardship had become a way of life for many Nigerians, blaming the government’s inaction for the worsening economic realities.
He also criticized the attitude of some street beggars, saying many have turned begging into a career despite daily assistance from generous Nigerians, including celebrities.
“Some of them act entitled. It’s annoying,” he said.
Zlatan urged beggars to channel their energy into productive ventures, stressing that dignity and self-reliance remain the surest paths to financial stability.
