On Wednesday, the Lagos State Police Command verified the demise of a purportedly unnamed cultist in the Ikorodu region of Lagos state.
During a phone call with our correspondent, Benjamin Hundeyin, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, verified the report.
One suspect, identified only as “Jide,” has been taken into custody in connection with the killing, according to Hundeyin. He also mentioned that the suspect is currently being held at the police headquarters, assisting with the investigation.
“Jide, the suspect responsible for the killing at Ikorodu this morning, has been taken into custody,” stated Hundeyin. Additionally, the weapon he used to carry out the murder has been found. He is currently helping the police with our investigation at the police headquarters.
He will be charged following an investigation.
A source going by the name Aki, however, claimed that the deceased was murdered by a local rival gang member with whom he and his group had been at odds.
Aki went on to say that the murder was an act of retaliation.
Aki gave an explanation of how Jide killed the deceased, stating that he was seen frantically trying to escape, but Jide was quicker and, as he approached, shot him in the forehead at close range as he turned to beg for his life.
He claimed that when the deceased’s lifeless corpse hit the ground, his blood splattered everywhere.
“It happened this morning; the man was seen running towards this location. We were unaware of what was going on until a man pursued him to this location and fired a close-range bullet into his forehead,” he stated.
It was a disgusting sight to see his blood splashing everywhere. While the shooter vanished, everyone ran in a flurry. He continued, “They are both cultists, and this attack was an act of retaliation.”
The incident, according to an eyewitness, created some traffic that morning. Residents and onlookers stared at the dead body from a distance while the police cleared the scene.
