Super Eagles defender set for summer exit after limited game time
Portuguese giants reject free move as player falls out of favour
Spanish second-division side Real Oviedo have opened talks to sign Nigerian international Zaidu Sanusi, following his lack of regular playing time at FC Porto.
Sanusi, 28, who featured in just six matches for Porto last season, is looking for a fresh start after falling down the pecking order under manager Sérgio Conceição. With two years left on his current deal, the left-back had been linked with a free transfer to Oviedo, but the proposal was swiftly rejected by the Portuguese club.
According to a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola, FC Porto are unwilling to release Sanusi for free and have insisted that Real Oviedo must pay a transfer fee to secure the defender’s services.
The Super Eagles star has faced stiff competition in recent seasons and now appears set for an exit, with Oviedo keen to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Negotiations between both clubs are ongoing as the Spanish outfit explores options to meet Porto’s financial demands.
