Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. David A. Ogewu, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure justice for Juliet, a young Igede woman allegedly beaten to death by suspected agberos at United Estate, Sangotedo–Ajah, Lagos.
According to eyewitness accounts and social media reports, the tragic incident occurred early Tuesday morning under unclear circumstances. Juliet, an Igede native from Ahuye, Akunda Ito, was reportedly attacked by a group of street thugs. Her body was later taken to a morgue near Doreen Specialist Hospital, Thomas Estate, Ajah, as investigations continue.
Sources revealed that some suspects have been arrested and taken to Ogombo Police Station, but members of the Igede community are demanding swift and transparent justice.
In a statement released by community leader John Enyi Ona, the Igede people expressed grief and outrage, describing Juliet’s death as “a barbaric act that must not go unpunished.” He urged all Igede sons and daughters, especially those living around the Ajah/Lekki axis, to gather for a peaceful protest on Wednesday morning to demand justice.
“Let’s not keep quiet while evil thrives. Today it’s Juliet; tomorrow it could be another innocent soul. Let’s rise for justice. Let Juliet’s death not be in vain,” the statement read.
Hon. Ogewu condemned the killing and emphasized the need for the police to protect citizens and restore public confidence in the justice system. He called on IGP Egbetokun to ensure that the culprits are identified, prosecuted, and punished according to the law.
As of the time of this report, the Lagos State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
