The Nigeria Police Force has unsealed the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dramatically reopening Wadata Plaza in Abuja and handing control to a faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The move, which also saw the reopening of the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, was confirmed by factional National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed in a statement issued through the National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.
Mohammed declared that the action followed valid court orders, stressing that both properties have now been officially handed over to his National Working Committee, with Samuel Anyanwu recognised as National Secretary.
He praised the police for acting with professionalism and respecting due process.
“This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process,” he stated.
However, he issued a stern warning that any attempt to disrupt activities at the secretariat would be met with firm resistance, noting that security agencies are on standby to enforce order.
Mohammed further insisted that the development signals the end of the party’s internal crisis, urging aggrieved members to close ranks and rebuild unity within the PDP.
He also singled out Wike for commendation, describing his role and support as critical in stabilising the party.
The secretariat had been sealed since November 2025 after violent clashes erupted between rival factions, plunging the party into a prolonged leadership tussle.
But the latest development has sparked fresh outrage from the opposing faction loyal to Tanimu Turaki.
In a strongly worded reaction, spokesman Ini Ememobong condemned the unsealing, describing it as contemptuous and legally questionable.
He argued that the judgment cited by the police is currently under appeal, warning that the action could undermine the judicial process.
Ememobong also raised concerns over what he described as possible partisan interference, cautioning that the move may erode confidence in neutrality.
Despite the tension, he urged party members to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that lawful steps would be taken to defend the interests of what he called genuine PDP members.
“Though pain may tarry at night, joy will come in the morning. Let us endure with hope,” he said.
The unfolding development underscores deepening divisions within the PDP, even as both factions claim legitimacy and push for control ahead of future political contests.
