|By Adejumo Adekunle – The FBI has announced FBI drone flight restrictions around key venues hosting 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in Florida, warning that operators who ignore the rules could face heavy penalties.
The FBI drone flight restrictions cover Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens and the fan festival site at Bayfront Park. Authorities say the measures are designed to protect fans, players and officials during the tournament.
According to a statement issued on Monday, FBI Miami and its law enforcement partners will enforce Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
As a result, drone operators have been urged to regularly check airspace limitations through FAA-approved applications and the official TFR website before flying.
Meanwhile, Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles said the “No Drone Zones” policy forms part of wider security arrangements for the World Cup.
He stressed that public safety remains the top priority. Furthermore, he warned that FBI agents and partner agencies have the authority to use specialised technology to intercept and seize drones that violate the restrictions.
Officials also cautioned that breaches of the FBI drone flight restrictions could attract civil fines of up to $75,000, criminal fines of up to $100,000, up to one year in prison, and confiscation of the drone involved.
In addition, the FBI urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, including unsafe drone operations, to law enforcement authorities.
Hard Rock Stadium is scheduled to host seven matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including group-stage games, a Round of 32 fixture, a quarter-final and the Bronze Final.
