A suspected kidnap kingpin, Abubakar Usman, has been arrested by security operatives after a fierce gun battle in a forest in Delta State, following the rescue of a kidnapped woman whose abductors allegedly demanded ₦100 million as ransom. The Delta kidnap suspect was apprehended after an intensive overnight operation that relied on surveillance technology to track the fleeing gang. Authorities believe the Delta kidnap suspect is linked to several kidnapping cases in the area.
According to security advocate Harrison Gwamnishu, the victim, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, an indigene of Umunede Kingdom, was kidnapped on July 2, 2026, along Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. After the incident was reported, the case was referred to the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor.
Using the Hydra Tech Surveillance System, security operatives launched a coordinated rescue mission and successfully recovered the victim alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.
Following the rescue, officers immediately began tracking the fleeing suspects. The search continued through the night until about 6:45 a.m., when surveillance technology reportedly traced the group to a hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
A gun battle followed as security operatives confronted the suspects. During the operation, Abubakar Usman was arrested, while other members of the group reportedly escaped deeper into the forest with their weapons.
Investigators suspect that Usman and the fleeing gang members were responsible for several kidnapping incidents in Igbodo, Umunede and neighbouring communities, where victims’ families allegedly paid millions of naira in ransom.
Gwamnishu praised Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Commissioner of Police, officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, and DSP Paul Xdot for their roles in the operation. He described their efforts as crucial to the successful rescue of the victim and the arrest of the Delta kidnap suspect.
Will the arrest of the Delta kidnap suspect help security agencies dismantle other kidnapping networks operating in the region?
