The All Progressives Congress (APC) tightened its political dominance in Kaduna State on Saturday as four members of the State House of Assembly, five serving federal lawmakers, and thousands of supporters defected to the ruling party at a mega rally held at Murtala Square, Kaduna.

With the latest defections, APC’s representation in the House of Representatives has climbed to 13, leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with just three. In the Kaduna State House of Assembly, APC now controls 26 seats against PDP’s eight.

APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Lawal; and Chairman, North West Development Commission, Alhaji Lawal Samaila Yakawada, stormed the rally alongside thousands of party loyalists.

Governor Uba Sani welcomed the defectors, assuring them of equal opportunity within the party. He declared that APC now enjoys unrivalled grassroots spread across the state, reaffirming his confidence that the party will secure 95 percent of votes in the 2027 general elections.

He attributed the mass defections to his administration’s commitment to justice, fairness, and inclusivity, stressing that Kaduna has not witnessed a single ethno-religious crisis under his leadership.

“Our diversity is our strength. Poverty has no religion or ethnicity. Kaduna is working as one family,” Governor Sani stated.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas described APC as “the party to beat across all three zones of Kaduna”, while Professor Nentawe tagged the party as “the promised land” for Nigerian politicians.

Speaking for the defectors, Hon. Husseini Jalo declared Kaduna a one-party state, insisting both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani deserve re-election.

Notable defectors include federal lawmakers Hon Sadiq Ango (Sabon Gari), Hon Andulkarim Husseini Ahmad (Kaduna South), Hon Aliyu Mustapha Abdullahi (Ikara/Kubau), and Hon Hussaini Jalo (Igabi). Others are former Governors Muktar Ramalan Yero and ex-Senators Danjuma Lah, Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, and Shehu Sani.
