In a significant step toward strengthening kinship and preserving Kalabari tradition, the Amanyanabo of the Source (Elem Kalabari, Torusarama-piri), Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari, Dabaye Amakiri I, on Monday received and inducted US-trained psychotherapist and academic, Dr. Fenibo Braide, into the prestigious Edi-Abali Council of Chiefs in Buguma City, headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area.
Welcoming Dr. Braide back to his ancestral roots after years abroad, Dabaye Amakiri praised his decision to “return home and assume a chieftaincy stool,” describing it as a commitment to heritage and communal responsibility.
He urged members of the house to uphold unity, strengthen family bonds, and connect with relatives across Buguma, Tombia, Abalama, Kugbo, and the diaspora. He emphasized that the house, under his leadership, has reclaimed its rightful influence—echoing the legacy of their progenitor, who served as prime minister of Kalabari during the reign of King Karibo Amachree, as documented by historian G. I. Jones.
Dabaye Amakiri further challenged every member of the Edi-Abali compound to contribute actively to its development, stressing that progress “must not rest solely on chiefs or elders.”
Dr. Fenibo Braide will be formally presented to the Buguma Council of Chiefs on Friday and to the Kalabari Se-Kobiri on Saturday, where additional installation rites will be conducted.
