Governors of the South-West states on Monday gathered in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to reassess the region’s security landscape amid growing concerns over safety.

Those at the closed-door meeting include Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, who hosted his counterparts Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti). Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, delegated his deputy, Kola Adeusi, to represent him.

Sources at the venue said the emergency meeting was convened to evaluate recent security threats and harmonise joint responses across the six states.

Governor Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, confirmed the session had commenced.
“The meeting has started. All the governors are present except Governor Adeleke, who sent his deputy,” he said in a brief telephone conversation.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the region’s coordinated security strategy in the coming weeks.
