Garba Maidoki says insecurity forced him into politics during television interview

The lawmaker representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Garba Maidoki, says insecurity in his constituency pushed him into politics despite having no personal ambition to seek political office.

Garba Maidoki says insecurity forced him into politics while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday. The senator explained that worsening security challenges in Kebbi South convinced him that political participation was necessary to bring change.

Maidoki recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He cited unresolved internal disputes within the ruling party following the party’s primaries in Kebbi State.

According to him, local communities had tried several measures to defend themselves against insecurity. However, he said residents eventually realised that democratic participation could be more effective than violence.

“The only reason I joined politics is because of the insecurity in my area. I have no interest in doing politics,” Maidoki said.

He added that communities had exhausted various self-help options before deciding that voting for credible leaders offered a better path to addressing security concerns.

Furthermore, the senator argued that the ballot remains a stronger tool for achieving lasting change than taking up arms. He said the decision to engage politically came from a desire to improve safety and stability in the region.

Garba Maidoki says insecurity forced him into politics, highlighting how security concerns continue to influence political decisions in parts of northern Nigeria.

His comments come amid growing public debate over insecurity and governance, with many citizens demanding stronger measures to protect lives and property.

The senator’s remarks also underline the increasing role security issues play in shaping voter behaviour and political alignments across the country.
