Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has approved N600 million for the 2024/2025 WASSCE fees for 18,734 students in public secondary schools. Kogi’s Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, announced this at a press briefing in Lokoja, highlighting that the state now covers examination fees for all students in public schools under a law enacted in 2023.
“The state government will fully pay for WAEC fees in line with the Free Examination Fee Law,” Jones noted, adding, “This policy eases the burden on families and helps ensure students stay in school.”
Jones shared that the number of beneficiaries rose by 3,700 from the previous year as parents increasingly moved their children to public schools. He emphasized that the government aims to remove barriers to education and ensure complete school attendance.
Looking forward, the state will also cover JAMB, NABTEB, and other essential exam fees, Jones confirmed, thanking school principals for their cooperation.
