Members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) organized their followers for a demonstration on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International in Abuja.

To compel their members employed in the aviation industry to halt all flights to Owerri, the capital of Imo state, organized labor assembled at the airport at 8:58 a.m.

It was learned that the demonstration is a part of a larger campaign that the two labor unions claim would target Imo State specifically in the wake of the attack on Mr. Joe Ajaero, the president of the NLC.

Due in part to the conflict with the Imo State government, the NLC and TUC announced a countrywide strike that would begin on Tuesday, November 14.

They are all filing out in a convoy to the airport, with the workers’ unions leading the march. The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s access and departure ramps were blocked by the demonstrators.

At the checkpoint, the soldiers prevented the demonstrators from entering the airport. Due to the protestors’ refusal, the airport’s access and departure points were blocked, resulting in heavy car traffic on both sides and forcing passengers to enter the airport on foot.
