• Kanu incarcerated since June 2021 after extradition from Kenya

• Military’s Operation Python Dance targeted Kanu but failed
• Kanu lost both parents amid the agitation; family actively involved in legal battles

Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has revealed that Kanu’s family has paid a significant price due to his activism. Speaking on social media, Ejimakor noted that the impact of the Biafra struggle extends heavily to Kanu’s immediate family, who have been at the forefront of legal battles, including victories in multiple courts and international bodies.

Kanu has been held in custody by Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, following his arrest in Kenya and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria. Despite court rulings acquitting him, his detention continues.

During the Biafra agitation, the military launched Operation Python Dance, a failed attempt to capture or eliminate Kanu. The agitator also endured personal losses, including the deaths of both parents.

Ejimakor emphasized the family’s resilience and crucial role in sustaining the agitation legally and morally, stating that they have “paid a heavy price” in the struggle for Biafra.
