Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has stirred fresh controversy after alleging widespread age falsification within the country’s music industry.

The artist, whose real name is Tochukwu Ojogwu, made the claims during a recent livestream with streamer Enzo, where he accused several artistes of deliberately reducing their ages to secure deals and remain commercially attractive.

Odumodublvck asserted that many musicians feel pressured to appear younger because record labels and brand partners often favour artists within certain age brackets.

“I am 32 and I don’t bother myself about getting things right at this age,” he said. “A lot of artists reduce their age because of record labels and partnership deals. Investors in the music industry don’t want to invest in older artists.”

His comments have ignited conversations about ageism, transparency, and industry standards, with many questioning the extent to which commercial interests shape the identities of performers.

Industry observers say the allegation highlights a deeper issue—where talent may be overshadowed by marketability, forcing artists to alter personal details to stay competitive.

As reactions continue to trail the revelation, the spotlight now turns to record labels and stakeholders to address concerns around fairness, inclusivity, and authenticity in Nigeria’s thriving music scene.
