Nigerian music star, Rema, has pulled back the curtain on the harsh realities of early fame, alleging that he was exploited after rising to stardom at a young age.

The singer, who shot into the spotlight after signing with Mavin Records and releasing his debut EP in 2019 at just 19, revealed that his journey to success came with emotional and personal turmoil many fans never saw.

In his latest collaboration titled ‘Moviestar’ with French pianist Sofiane Pamart, Rema delivers a raw and haunting confession, opening up about disturbing experiences during his early years in the industry.

The 25-year-old alleged in the song that he was exposed to harmful influences, including being drugged by women during his rise to fame. He suggested that the pressures of celebrity life masked his internal struggles, leaving fans unaware of the pain behind his success.

Rema also hinted at feeling trapped after signing his record deal, stating that expectations to constantly perform and entertain took priority over his emotional well-being.

Through his lyrics, the Afrobeats star paints a picture of a young artist navigating fame too quickly, burdened by pressures and experiences that shaped his outlook on life and relationships.

His revelations have sparked conversations about the hidden cost of early fame in the entertainment industry and the need for better protection and support systems for young artists.
