The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully commissioned two 150MVA power transformers and a 75MVA reactor at its newly completed 330/132/33kV Bauchi Transmission Substation.

The commissioning, which took place on July 3, marks the culmination of a critical power infrastructure project that began in February 2022. With the new installations, TCN has injected an additional 240 megawatts (MW) into the national grid, significantly improving bulk electricity transmission to Bauchi State and the wider Northeast region.

A statement signed by the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, described the development as a major leap in TCN’s grid expansion efforts. She noted that the substation currently supplies power to the existing Bauchi 132/33kV Substation and is poised to enhance grid stability and transmission reliability.

As part of the project, TCN also erected two new transmission towers, aimed at bolstering network flexibility and enabling more efficient power flow within the region. The facility is expected to serve customers primarily within the franchise area of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos Disco).

“This development underscores TCN’s commitment to expanding the transmission grid and improving electricity infrastructure nationwide,” Mbah said, adding that the new substation is expected to stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of electricity supply across Bauchi and the Northeast.

The project was executed in partnership with the World Bank, further reinforcing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure through international collaboration.
