The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the University of Jos to introduce 18 new full-time academic programmes starting from the 2025/2026 academic session. This expansion aims to broaden educational opportunities and respond to the evolving demands of students and society.
Senior Deputy Registrar Abdullahi Abdullahi confirmed that the approval followed a thorough Resource Verification visit by the NUC, which evaluated the University’s capacity in terms of human and material resources to ensure readiness for the new programmes.
Among the newly approved undergraduate courses are Bachelor of Science degrees in Data Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Systems, and Information Technology. The University will also offer Bachelor of Arts programmes in Philosophy, Music Education, and Fine Arts and Applied Arts Education, alongside education degrees in Primary Education, Agricultural Science Education, and Business Education.
Further approvals include Bachelor degrees in Radiography (B.RAD.), Physiotherapy (D.P.T.), Entrepreneurship, Public Administration, Forensic Science, Pharmacology, and Social Work.
The NUC stipulated that these programmes are currently approved for full-time undergraduate delivery, with the possibility of future expansion into postgraduate offerings, pending additional approvals.
This milestone reinforces the University of Jos’s dedication to academic excellence and its mission to equip students with skills relevant to today’s challenges.
