A fresh political storm has erupted as Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, launched a scathing attack on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing him of aggressively pursuing a vice-presidential ambition and resorting to dangerous rhetoric.
Olayinka alleged that Makinde, whom he described as “partyless,” is pushing the boundaries of political conduct after allegedly losing influence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He claimed the governor is now “desperately” seeking a vice-presidential slot, even outside the party.
In a strongly worded post on X, Olayinka warned that Makinde’s actions could inflame tensions, invoking memories of the infamous Operation Wetie era.
“I just hope he knows the gravity of inciting violence, even as a sitting governor,” Olayinka wrote.
He further accused Makinde of failing in several political maneuvers, including alleged attempts to dominate the PDP structure and influence traditional leadership matters in Ibadan. Olayinka also referenced controversies surrounding the reported N30 billion compensation fund for victims of the 2024 Bodija explosion, alleging that the governor has yet to provide a full account.
According to Olayinka, Makinde’s current posture is driven by frustration after losing political ground within the PDP and his alleged move to secure a vice-presidential ticket under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“Now, he is threatening violence just because he has lost out in the PDP and is desperately looking for the ADC vice-presidential ticket,” he stated.
The remarks mark a sharp escalation in political rhetoric as alignments and ambitions begin to crystallize ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Makinde has not publicly responded to the allegations.
