Novak Djokovic will aim to take full advantage of the wide-open men’s draw at the French Open following the shocking exit of Jannik Sinner earlier in the tournament.

The Serbian legend remains tied on 24 Grand Slam titles since winning the 2023 US Open and now sees a major opportunity to claim a record-breaking 25th title in Paris. With Sinner already out and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz absent through injury, many believe Djokovic’s path to another crown has become clearer.

Standing in his way in Friday’s third-round clash is Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca, one of tennis’ brightest young talents. The 19-year-old has attracted global attention with his fearless style and impressive rise on the tour.

“Fonseca has been praised so much in the last couple of years,” Djokovic said. “I think his potential and quality as a tennis player is obvious, no doubt about it.”

The Serbian also praised the young Brazilian’s confidence and ability to perform under pressure, describing him as a player who enjoys the big stage.

Although Novak Djokovic has reached the third round, he has not looked completely dominant, dropping one set in each of his opening matches as he continues his chase for a fourth French Open title.

Fonseca, meanwhile, arrives full of confidence after battling back from two sets down to defeat Croatian youngster Dino Prizmic in the second round. The teenager admitted he always hoped for a chance to face Djokovic before the Serbian eventually retires.

“I just want to have this experience in my life,” Fonseca said. “I’m going to enjoy every moment playing against an idol, the GOAT of the sport.”

Can Novak Djokovic seize this opportunity and finally win his historic 25th Grand Slam title?
