…Super Falcons striker reaffirms commitment after WAFCON triumph
…30-year-old forward eyes more glory with Nigeria

Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has dismissed claims suggesting she plans to retire from international football, insisting she remains focused on her career and national duty.

The Barcelona Femeni forward made the clarification after Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Morocco in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, where the Super Falcons lifted their 12th continental title.

Reacting to the growing speculation, Oshoala told journalists:

“I don’t know where that came from but agenda must agend. I get it, but I’m not bothered. I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on.”

Though the 30-year-old played a supporting role throughout the tournament, she featured in Nigeria’s final 23-player squad and remained a pivotal presence in the squad’s leadership.

Since making her international debut in 2013, Oshoala has built a legacy of excellence. She made history as the first African player to score in three consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups and has now added a fourth WAFCON title to her name—2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024.

Her impact on African football remains unmatched, having won the CAF African Women’s Footballer of the Year a record six times.

Despite swirling rumours about her future, Oshoala’s declaration puts to rest any suggestion of an imminent exit, as she signals her readiness to continue delivering for Nigeria on the global stage.
